Renew or Rebuild
If you have owned an older home and have done your own repairs you know the difference between building and renovating. In the last thirty-two years I have owned two homes, neither of them were new. One was built in the 1940’s and the other in the 1880’s. No matter how much renovating you do on an old house, it is still an old house.
Our lives are just like that. People make resolutions and changes in their lives and their lives may be better for a period of time; but just like an old house that has been renovated, the hidden rot and ruin again comes to the surface, revealing the sad state of corruption.
Romans 7:18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.
Romans 8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. 8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. 9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
God doesn’t just redecorate or renovate the old. He begins all over again from the foundation of the Holy Spirit through regeneration.
Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
That’s what being “Born Again” means. Humans can never make anything perfect. God always does.
2Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
