This month we are celebrating our 45th church anniversary. It isn’t every church that has that kind of faithfulness and steadfastness. During the forty-five years I have been a child of God, I have seen many pastors and churches and Christian organizations come and go. So I want you to see from the Bible what causes a church or a family or an individual to either remain steadfast or fail and fall.
Let me say without bringing discredit to anyone, that God can use anyone and anything He wishes to use. In Acts chapter 5, God used the Pharisee Gamaliel, probably with the future apostle Paul in attendance, to give the foundation of a lasting church or individual or family. And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought: But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God. (Acts 5:38, 39) So let me challenge you as individuals, families and as a local church body to make sure that this work “be of God” and it will last until Jesus comes to take us home to heaven.Make sure that your steadfastness and your stability and your labour is by the power of God, otherwise it is just plain fleshly stubbornness. I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.(Psalms 16:8) If any human takes credit for the work of God, first of all that is blasphemy. Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.(Psa 127:1) Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and for ever. Amen.(Jude 24-25)
