Fathers Day 2016
God created the family in the beginning and He founded it upon some laws that will keep it together even when trouble comes. God’s Word says that Honouring our father and mother is the first commandment with a promise attached to it.
Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise;
That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.
~Ephesians 6: 2,3~
I can see that in the near future Father’s Day as a holiday could lose its relevance as the family unit breaks up. Everyone has a father somewhere but there are many fathers who have deserted their children and children who have deserted their fathers. This is mostly due to an uncaring selfish “Do your own
thing” philosophy. Today we are reaping the harvest of the seed sown by an “It’s all about ME” idea.
We often blame a disaster for destroying houses and buildings but there have always been storms. What is it that determines whether a house or a building stays firm or crumbles in the storm? The thing that is really the strength of the house is the foundation.
The foundation of a nation, a community, a family or even our own life is the principles or laws upon which it is founded. The reason families today can’t stand the storms of life is that they have no foundation. The only thing holding them together is their immediate feelings. As soon as difficulties come the whole family breaks up.
In the LORD put I my trust: how say ye to my soul, Flee as a bird
to your mountain? For, lo, the wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow upon the string, that they may privily shoot at the upright in heart.
If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?
Psalms 11: 1-3
