Good News of Peace
And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold,
I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David
a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
If there is a word that would describe the condition of the world so far in this millennium it would have to be Terror! There have been bombings, shootings, hijacks and ongoing wars not just in one location as in the past millennium; but this is a world-wide fear as God said in His Word… Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.Luke 21:26. It brings to mind the words in the Christmas carol written by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, “Hate is strong and mocks the song of peace on Earth good will to men”.
The meaning of the word gospel is a good or joyful message, which is just what the World needs; and what Jesus Christ’s birth, life, crucifixion, and resurrection is! This good news of peace is not the news that all conflicts have ceased, although they will when the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ, rules this world. Paul’s letters to the Roman and Ephesian church call this the gospel of peace.
While many say that most wars have been fought in the name of religion, it is not people who are Godly that have started them. Conflicts are started by those who reject Jesus Christ and oppose the preaching of the gospel of peace. They have said as the Pharisees did to Pilate when they took the Prince of Peace to be crucified, “We will not have this man to reign over us.
More than ever, people need to hear this good news of the gospel of peace and receive true peace with God, being saved by the blood of Jesus Christ. Only then can we know the freedom from fear that close fellowship with God can bring.
