Pastor's Pen for April 2014
I’ve Read the Book… It’s Better!
At least once a year usually around what many people call the “Easter” season (which I prefer to call Resurrection Sunday) the movie industry comes up with a movie that has some kind of religious theme. I’m not condemning religious movies so don’t turn me off yet or you may miss a blessing. Anyway, these movies may be very close to the Bible account or far removed from what God originally intended in His Word all depending on the literary license taken by those involved in the production of them.
I suppose that some of them may help people visualize what the Holy Land and life was like during Bible times. There may be different perspectives presented that readers don’t usually think about now if they read the Bible, I wonder though, considering the way people take things presented on television and in movies as being “gospel truth”, if there is a danger of people getting a false idea or even believing false doctrine. I also wonder, with the literacy level of the common public, if it is possible for the common public to read and understand the Bible in the language of the common people. That may be a possible motivation for making these movies.
I don’t watch very many of these movies so I’m not in a position to comment on them for either criticism or commendation. However, I have read the book through numerous times, yes, even in the original 1611 English and there is one portion of the Bible that is especially important to the reader…
Blessed is he that readeth,
and they that hear the words of this prophecy,
and keep those things which are written therein:
for the time is at hand.
I don’t think God put that promise anywhere in a movie prologue, epilogue or the endless credits at the end that no one watches.
READ THE BOOK AND RECEIVE A BLESSING!
