The End of the Beginning
Just before Jesus Christ died on the cross He said, “It is finished”. His work that He came to this earth to do was done. After He arose from the grave He only stayed on the earth a short while and then ascended back into heaven and assumed His throne and glory.
He had taught His disciples all the things they needed to know to carry on the work of bringing the message of the gospel to the rest of the world but there was something the still lacked. His disciples were men and they had no spiritual power of their own. Just a few days after Jesus ascended He sent the Holy Spirit to indwell them and give them the spiritual power and authority they needed to fulfill the commission He had given them just before He left for heaven. That was the end of the beginning of our sanctification.
Those disciples, as they walked and lived in the power of the Holy Spirit, were able to carry out the work, which Jesus Christ had commissioned them to do. Within the next sixty years they filled the Mediterranean world with the doctrine of Jesus Christ and many were converted from their pagan religions to serve the living and true God.
That very same power is still available to us who have been born again. Since that day just fifty days after the Passover everyone who has been born of the Spirit has the power of God dwelling in them. All that is necessary for us to fulfill the commission that God has given us is that we like those early disciples, choose to live and walk in the power of the Holy Spirit dying to our own will daily.
It isn’t the Gospel that has lost its power it is still “the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth”.
The Holy Spirit hasn’t lost His power God is still “able to do above all that we ask or think”.
If the work of God is not getting done it is because God’s children are not living and walking in the Holy Spirit!
