A Great Nation
When we think of great nations we usually think of the leaders, or the Legislature or the constitution or the political parties and their platforms, or the judges of that nation; but those can’t make it great.
Moses was the greatest leader that Israel ever had, but Israel did not become a great nation under his leadership. The people of Israel during that time were constantly squabbling over one thing or another. They were either griping about not having water or food or being surrounded by their enemies. Moses finally had to appoint 70 men just to deal with their petty differences so he could concentrate on leading. Israel wasn’t a great nation then because of the division amongst the people. Israel didn’t become a great nation until they worshipped, and obeyed God under the direction of King David and his son Solomon.
Webster’s 1828 starts the definition of “Nation” with the words “A body of people…” so any nation is made up of people and if it is going to be a nation blessed by God then the people of that nation must seek God’s blessing.
When the queen of Sheba came to see Solomon and the great nation of Israel, I Kings 10 gives the testimony of what she found.
(1 Ki 10: 8) Happy are thy men, happy are these thy servants, which stand continually before thee, and that hear thy wisdom.
Apparently God had King Solomon’s prayer for blessing from I Kings chapter eight. The verses below show us what it takes to become a nation and people whom God blesses.
PEOPLE who honour and praise God for who He is. vs.27-30
PEOPLE who confess their sin and pray for forgiveness. 31,32,35
PEOPLE who want to learn God’s Word. vs. 36
PEOPLE who want to follow His Ways. vs. 36
PEOPLE who are faithful to worship God in His house. vs.38
PEOPLE who will fear God all the days of their lives. vs.40
If Canada were full of PEOPLE like you what would this nation be.
