How to tell if you are spiritual or carnal
Well, here I am with one new eye and one old eye. I didn’t realize how much my vision had deteriorated. Although my vision is unbalanced until the doctor finishes with the other eye, the difference like night and day. The difference in my vision is almost unbelievable since last Friday. Those of you who have experienced the improve-ment in your vision with cataract surgery know what I mean. It’s like the sun coming out from behind the clouds on a gloomy day.
When we are looking at our spiritual vision or lack thereof, sometimes it is hard to see whether we are spiritual or carnal because the change can be so gradual that we don’t see it, When we go about our daily business or our daily walk in this world we can slowly become spiritually dull. The deception and work of the flesh or the devil can be so slow that we can’t see it in our own lives until we compare ourselves with the Sun of Righteousness, the Lord Jesus Christ in the Word of God. Then the difference is shocking and we wonder how we could have gotten so far from the Lord.
Look at 1Corinthians 2:14 carefully. “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”
One of the ways that we can tell if our spiritual vision has become dim is our ability to understand the Word of God so that we can discern the will of God. The natural man here is not an unsaved person but our natural old sinful nature that we were born with. Are you still doing things like you did before you were saved, or are your actions and attitudes controlled by the Holy Spirit and the Word of God?
Another way to determine your spiritual growth is what you digest. Are you able to discern what pleases God in your attitudes and appearance, or are you still working on your actions? Can you handle the meat of the Word or are you still working on the milk?
Don’t let the deceptions of the devil or the world or even you own heart dim you spiritual vision. Ask God to keep it clear.
