King Herod Believed the Bible
I would like to call your attention to a person that was involved in the Christmas story in the Bible. The reason I want to mention him is so that we see that sometimes our faith or belief of the Bible is sadly lacking. I want to stir you to check up on how much you believe God’s Word. There is a saying that goes: “Familiarity breeds contempt”. By that I means that sometimes we get so familiar with our Bible that we don’t act on what we read in it. We just go on doing just as we please and think that is enough to please God. But God ‘s Word says “faith without works is dead”.
I want you to look at Herod’s faith for a bit. If you would read Matthew chapter two carefully I think you’ll see what I am trying to explain here.
King Herod believed from the scriptures that there was going to be a baby born that would be the King of the Jews. He believed From the Bible that this King of the Jews was going to be sent from God because he called Him Christ in verse four. Herod Believed from God’s Word that he could find out where Christ should be born. He believed the prophecies of the scriptures when the chief priests and scribes quoted them to him in verses five and six. Unlike many who call themselves Christians today he had such faith in the scriptures that he acted upon what he had heard and read… The bad thing is that he acted the wrong way; instead of worshipping Christ like he should, he tried to kill the King of the Jews by destroying all the male children in Bethlehem two years old and under.
There are so many who call themselves Christians that hear the Bible preached week after week by God’s men and don’t do a thing about what they hear. They read the Bible day after day and do nothing to obey God. They go on with their life just the way they please never thinking or caring that they make God sick with their unbelief. The devils at least have the faith of Herod because they believe and tremble.
How is your Faith?
