Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah. (Psa 46:10-11)
What keeps you from being quiet inside? Do you fear failure or the future? Are you worrying over what might happen! Are you distressed over projects you desperately want to finish! Do you worry about your finances? Are there constant conflicts with others? Perhaps you just have the habit of being an anxious worrywart, or more simply, you just do not trust God!
“Be still and know that I am God."
Read the words again but this time understand what you’re reading. This is a command from God… something that He has told us to do. It is not just a suggestion of how He would like us to be. The action involved in obeying this command is to let go… He wants us to actively let go of the things that hinder our faith in Him and our fellowship with Him.
Now the reason we can be still is simply because God is GOD! And our God makes things happen. That's why we can give Him control over every thing that keeps us in turmoil. So it comes down to this. Are you willing to believe that God will act, if you become still and let go?
God allowed His chosen people Israel to be trapped between the army of Egypt and the Red Sea just so He could show them how He was going to care for them in the wilderness. He showed the world His mighty power that day by opening the Sea and destroying the enemy. So what is disturbing your peace today? Is it worth it? Just be still. Spend some time reading His Word and let the Holy Spirit give you His blessed quietness and assurance and let God be GOD! Let Him handle your life His way! He will show the world how powerful He is and how much He cares for His sheep!
Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God,
that he may exalt you in due time:
Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
(1 Pet 5:6-7)
