Will You Be A Statistic?
It is usual at the end of one year and the beginning of another to sort of do an inventory. Sometimes I do usual things so Monday morning as I was reading and meditating on Proverbs chapter two, and praying for my family and our church families I began to think of some of the families that have been at First Bible Baptist Church and have become “statistics”. Several family names went through my mind that just didn’t “make it” and have become spiritual casualties. I naturally asked myself why that happened and there in Proverbs two it became apparent what it is that makes the difference between someone who is successful and blessed and someone who becomes a “statistic”.
It is obvious that a person needs God’s wisdom if we are going to please God and not be one of those “statistics”.
James says in 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. You may think from this one verse that all it takes to please God is to ask for wisdom and God sends the wisdom fairy down and “poof” you get His Wisdom, but we must compare spiritual things with spiritual things. Proverbs chapter two and Psalm one show us the conditions of being blessed.
We must receive, hide in our hearts and obey the Word of God with earnest desire if we expect to get God’s wisdom.
Whenwisdom entereth into thine heart,
and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;
Discretion shall preserve thee,
understanding shall keep thee:
(Prov 2:10 & 11)
Those families that have “made it” and are still faithful in the third or fourth or fifth generation are those who have earnestly desired God’s Wisdom and Word as silver.
But be ye doers of the word,and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. (James 1:22)
